My Name is Lisa Danielson. As a child, I played school and very carefully created my own worksheets, I babysat, and I taught piano lessons throughout high school. Today, I am a wife, a mother, and a licensed elementary teacher. In 2000, my husband and I adopted a child with special needs. Because of her significant issues and the lack of resources, I chose to leave my business career and stay home to parent my child. It was heartbreaking to watch her struggle on a daily basis! As she grew, it became increasingly clear that I needed those resources that were unavailable, I decided to go back to school to earn my teaching license from the St. Mary’s University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I have a BA in Piano Performance: pedagogy from the University of St. Thomas, in St. Paul, Minnesota and an MA in Special Education from St. Mary’s University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Additionally I have extensive training in Orton-Gillingham and The Wilson Reading System. I have been in private practice as a Reading coach since 2007. I completed my OG certification in 2018.
Robbie Davis
Robbie Davis claims reading is her favorite sport. Her enthusiasm for reading goes back to her childhood and adolescence, and even today she rates a vacation as successful if she’s been able to read several books. After studying Journalism/Advertising at the University of Minnesota, Robbie worked at 3M for 21 years in Marketing Communications. When her children were school-age, she spent many hours volunteering in their classrooms and in the school library, assisting students in their reading endeavors. Robbie was also a Junior Great Books leader for nine years. In 2017, empty-nesters Robbie and her husband Rob moved to Tonka Bay, and Lisa Danielson introduced Robbie to Orton-Gillingham. The idea of helping children learn to read and spell turned into a dream job. Robbie went on to receive introductory and advanced Orton-Gillingham training and has been working as a contract tutor at Lakeside Readers since 2018. Robbie loves watching her students’ confidence grow as their spelling and reading skills improve and she is thrilled when they become enthusiastic readers.
